What is Contact Improvisation?
In Contact impro Dancers use physical touch, weight sharing, and momentum to improvise together. No set steps
- movement comes from listening through the body. Key ideas: rolling points of contact, falling, lifting, supporting, and momentum. You “dance with gravity” instead of going against it, touch and sensation guide you.
Done on the floor and upright, often to live music or silence. Requires trust, presence, and awareness of your partner’s center.
Sessions are usually open jams, not performances. Develops reflexes, coordination, and deep body awareness. Accessible to all bodies - no dance training needed, just curiosity!
